Get together stuff

I know there's been discussion on getting together a MESP reunion and there was some stuff on comments recently, but I was thinking it's time to get a whole post going. It's getting to the point where we might start wanting to make solid plans for the sake of people who might need to buy plane pr train tickets (they're much cheaper well in advance) and those of us who might possibly have to get time off from work. So where are we looking at? And what dates? (I know the Midwest and New Years have been the main answers, but I'm hoping to pin something down). It would be really spectacular to see people again, especially since missing everyone took a little while to set in for me. I hope we can work this out.

I'm up for anything, but my realistic vote is for the midwest...my house is always open...we could go snowmobiling and make gingerbread houses and eat cookie dough. (if it snows and Christmas comes).
or maybe we should snow ski in colorado? :)

so we are saying New Years for sure?

AND, if I'm to get a flight in, exactly what airport should I be trying to fly into? just curious.

however.. it would be awesome to be in London. chels, until when are you over there?

I was online yesterday doing some checking about stuff. London would be fun, but that's a $700 flight so momkin too much for most of us. I looked at the Des Moines airpoirt (it looked closest to Clive on the map). Also, I'm vaguely considering driving, especially if I can do it with more than one person. But my mom is really concerned about winter conditions. So what's the weather like out in Iowa at the end of December? How are my odds for hitting a blizzard?

ooo, pretty good i'd say (unless your mom is asking)...honestly; unless desmoines weather is nicer than where i'm at (i think it is) Marcia???

ok, i don't think my last comment made sense BUT I WAS SOBER!
i meant it to mean that there is a fine chance that it could be blizzardy here, but i think des moines weather is more mild.

Basically, I'm asking for an opinion on whether it's safe to drive out. I have driven in snow before. On the other hand, I do not have 4-wheel drive and there is a point after which even experience doesn't cancel out risk. So what do you think? Would you recommend driving or should I just shell out the extra $ and take a train?

I think you should do what you want, Heather. You might run into a snow storm if you drive, but you'll run into the same snow storm and be stuck in an airport if you fly. Basically you're taking a chance of getting stuck somewhere if you want to leave this place in the winter. But as Andrew says, rumor is that Des Moines is milder than here (it's farther south.) I say Des Moines (or Clive--it's a suburb of Des Moines, I think) at New Years is a good plan. I should be around.

So getting a plane ticket from Oregon is gonna cost me around $400-$500. This is possible, however, I was wondering how long we will stay together there or anywhere if you get my drift. No offense, but I want to make my $500 go as far as possible. so I was thinking of staying 4-6 days?? what are people's plans?? Thoughts?? I know, I know, its august, but you guys got me all excited.

if we settle on some time and place (which it sounds like we are close?), we (someone) ought to email those who see to have dropped out of sight.
